The communities in Johnson County are geared to family living. From pre-schools to higher education, it is clear that the youth of Johnson County are one of the main priorities.

Chambers of Commerce in the different communities strive to bring activities that will give families an opportunity to enjoy a special day together with friends. In Cleburne, for instance, Springfest is held in April; Cleburne on the Rise, a hot-air balloon festival is usually scheduled for late summer; and Christmas is always more festive with the Candlewalk to show off the historic homes.

Each community has its own law enforcement and is served by a volunteer fire department that is well-trained and is ready immediately to respond to the need for their services. Only Cleburne, Burleson and Alvarado have paid fire department employees. Annually, communities try to hold a special benefit to let the volunteer firefighters know how much their service is appreciated.

Medical care is always of concern to families planning a move. Walls Regional Hospital in Cleburne has been named one of the nation's Top 100 Hospitals for the past three years. It's services have recently been expanded to include a Transitional Care Unit where those who need a little extra care past their initial hospital stay may recover amid the newly decorated, homey atmosphere. Johnson County's proximity to Fort Worth gives a myriad of choices for medical care. Such large facilities as Harris Hospital, Huguley Medical Center, All Saints Hospital, Cook Children's Hospital and John Peter Smith Hospital are less than thirty minutes by ground and less than ten minutes by CareFlite.

"Neighbor" means a lot in Johnson County. Just let someone be suffering financial strain because of an accident, illness or act of nature and watch the citizens-the "good neighbors" come alive to help, whether with food, clothing or with a planned community activity to raise money for the need. You may think such things went out with the horse and buggy, but you haven't seen what neighbors do in Johnson County.
